Yesterday, I had my first classes in my teaching master's, here in Madrid. In particular, we're going to be learning about applying new technology in the classroom, and as part of our professional development as educators.
While I consider myself relatively technologically competent - years ago, in the distant 90s, I even programmed my own webpages in HTML - I've never been one to have much of a visible online presence. Creating a Twitter account and webpage, then, forced me to think about a lot of issues which will undoubtedly define the kind of teacher I want to be. How much do I want to reveal about myself? Do I want to take part in public debates about education outside of the classroom? Where should I look for inspiration or role models in the field of education?
I can't say I know the answers yet, but I get the sense that over the course of the semester, I won't just be learning how to use tools, technologies, and techniques: I'll be thinking about how I want to use them in the future, how I want to represent myself in the online space, and where I want to set my personal boundaries. It's going to be interesting.
